OK the actual term used around here is nasty, but I didn’t want nasty in my post title.  Quite frankly, I’m getting REAL tired of it!

It all started a few weeks ago, when my husband was seriously ribbing me about my eating of meat habits, or lack there of I guess I should say.  I had cooked some honey mustard pork loin chops, steamed broccoli, and a salad.  I filled my plate with salad, broccoli, and put a smidgen of honey mustard from the chops on my broc.  DELICIOUS!  My hubby how ever, began to totally go off because I didn’t eat any chops.  I didn’t WANT any chops.  He said that every meal needs some kind of meat, and just would not let it go! 

Ok, let me just stress here.  More often then NOT, I do not WANT meat.  I do not LIKE meat, I do not want meat, I will not eat it in a can, I will not eat it, not even HAM! lol..

NOT because I’m a vegan, I am not.  I do, on occasion take my fancy some bacon, or chicken.  But because I was the child of a butcher.  And as the child of a butcher I was forced to sit at the table EVERY NIGHT until my plate was clean.  I know, pitiful isn’t it, I was forced steaks and chops my entire life.  Oh-whoa-us-me… LOL…  But seriously, if you HAD to eat it EVERY NIGHT.  Forced to eat it until it was all gone, as an adult you would not touch it!

OK, now fast forward to the other day.  It was so cold in this house when I got up, I seriously looked outside for snow.  I swear, this air conditioner either doesn’t work at ALL or gets on crack and kicks into turbo-frost!  Anyway, that morning it was so cold!  I put on some footies, some jammie bottoms, a pot of coffee, and made me a big ole YUMMY BOWL of Cream of wheat.  MMM…

So, I’m sitting in my rocking recliner, in my footies and jammies, and seriously enjoying this cream of wheat, when the hubby comes hopping thru, bitching bout how cold it is and leans over to see what I was eating.  “GROSS!  Damn babe, that’s just nasty!”  WHAT?!  Could this be?!  The man I love does not enjoy the flavors of a warm wholesome breakfast that’s been nourishing families since the late 1800′s?!  Could this be happening!  “If I wanted baby food, I’d go down isle 6 at Wal-mart, that shit is just nasty! How can you eat that?!”  Let it go man!  Let me enjoy the warmth of my childhood memories and savor the flavor of the ‘nanners I’d so lovingly mooshed for my breakfast!  Go away man!

Now to tonight.  I made homemade soup, from the left over roast we had the other night.  No, again that night, I didn’t eat any meat.  But I sure LOVE the tators and carrots from a good slow cooked roast! mmmm-mmm-good!  roast night was another night of listening to the hubby tell me it isn’t a “meal” unless something is dead on the table. *BLUCK! did he REALLY just say that!*

 Anyway,  by now the kids have picked up on it, and I am told that leftovers are NASTY. Even though, they are both sitting there stuffing their faces, and I swear, I hear little moans of pleasure as they chew.  Truthin’ I swear!   Of course, I have to be a little different.  I picked all the meat out of my soup, bluck, and instead of crackers like everyone else, I get out that big scrumptious loaf of Asiago Cheese Bread I bought.  Now that’s some MMMM-MMM-GOOD for you!

What’s that taste like Mom?  So, I share a nibble.  “OH GROSS!”  (umm.. this bread taste like cheddar, only its not a soft bread, its a harder bread.  Not hard crispy like brie, but hard.)  “That is not gross, you love cheddar cheese.”  “Mom, that’s just NASTY”  To this my hubby just giggles his little smug ass off.

Am I nasty because I refuse to stick to the BASICS of food and instead like to broaden my culinary pallet?

Asiago is NOT nasty!
And dammit, I shouldn’t HAVE to eat meat if I don’t want to!
