Sorry, Im in one of those moods again.  I think I need SLEEP!  I spent like, um… the last 10 hours READING PHP CODE.  BLUCK.  Did a lot of upgrades on our forum though! Yippie!

Well, its the last Friday of the month.  I have SOOO much to do today, its unreal.  Just wanted to pop in and say THANK YOU.

UPDATE ON THE SCHOOL INCIDENT

I called them yesterday, and was told the book has been temporarily removed due to some parental complaints.   He also said that since Bub had one of the books checked out, he was called to the library to return it, so they COULD pull it.  They would CHECK INTO what was actually said.   So we shall see what today brings. LOL…

I did want to say thanks!  I have gotten SO MANY nice comments and emails about this.  Granted for every two good I got one nasty.  Seriously, I thought we were further along then that but I have to say, as a society, we are not. tsk tsk.

OMG, I’m so sad right now.  Let me tell you the conversation I just overheard my kids having at the breakfast table. 

Scene: kids at dinning room table in dinning room as Mom (that would be me) unloads dishes in kitchen….

Bub (11):  Hey, You know Dumbledore in Harry Potter?
*Mom automatically starts to listen close because she knows the big bruhaha that’s been on the news.
Sis (6):  Yea…
Bub:  Well turns out he’s a baby raper.
*Mom flips out and starts into the dining room yelling “HEY HEY  HEYYYYYY”
Mom:  Don’t say that!  Why would you say that?
Sis:  What’s a baby raper?
Bub: Because yesterday they took all the Harry Potter books out of the library at school.  They are banned.  And Mrs. ____ said it was because Dumbledore is gay.
Sis:  WHATS GAY?
Mom: Eat your breakfast.  Bub, you know that being gay does not mean child molester.  Why would you say that?  Why would you even bring this up at breakfast anyway!?  Sis doesn’t understand this stuff.
Sis: NOPE, WHATS A GAY BABY RAPER MEAN?
MOM:  Just eat your breakfast its almost time to go.
Bub:  Well, Mrs. _________ said that she had to take my book back because it was banned because Dumbledore is a fag.
Mom: Did she use that word?  She said FAG?
Sis: excuse me, (getting very mad) WHAT Is a FAG?
Mom and BuB: JUST EAT.
Bub: That’s what she said. (shrugging)
Mom: You understand what gay is right?
Bub: Yes
Sis:ummm… no.
Mom:  You know that my friend _________ is gay, right?
Bub: Well, duh.  He wears makeup Mom.
Mom: So do you think he is a child molester to?
Bub: Well, no.  But Mrs ______ said that any thing about raping boys wasn’t allowed in our library and all JK ROWLINGS books were now banned from schools.
Mom: well, they might be banned at school, but I don’t want to hear you say stuff like that again.  We’re going to talk more about this when you get home.

Now, as a parent, I am so sad.  I try very hard to make my children understand that it is ok to be YOU.  That being gay is fine, being another race is fine, being Baptist or Catholic, its ALL OK.  you know.  It all falls into the “acceptance” category.  That kind of hate is all bigotry to me.  It is UNACCEPTABLE.  I’m kind of mad.  In one day, that librarian has reinforced a stereotype in my sons head that being gay is wrong.  Because gay = child molesting, when as an adult she should know better.  As a librarian, dealing with hundreds of children, she should mind her tongue better!  You would think with everything going on in the world, she would have something better to bitch about.  grrrrrr….  I absolutely HATE our school system.  Now I have to decide what all to talk about today when my kids get home from school.  Sis is entirely to young to understand sexuality, but now she wants to know what GAY is so I’m going to have to explain that.  I think I’m going to have one of my friends come over that is gay to help.  Sometimes being a parent absolutely sucks.
