Long week, longer weekend…

Man, what a week.  Something about company, no matter how much you enjoy them, ZAPS your energy when they go. LOL…  I’m pooped.

What all do I want to talk about, hmmm.

The Tooth has left the building…

well, we FINALLY lost our tooth.  Sis’s tooth has been hanging on for OVER a month!  I even started calling her SPONGEBOB for her crazy teeth, but still she wouldn’t let me pull it.  It finally came out during supper last night.

sis-tooth

So a big shout out to Sissy no longer looking like Spongebob’s long lost twin, and also to the Tooth Fairy for the dough!  You rock Tooth Fairy!  {frames above by KimB}

We have horny fish!  REALLY!!!

LOL…

I was worried about the kids fishy’s because they keep making these huge blobs of bubbles.  I keep changing their water, rinsing their bowl, and they keep making bubbles.  So I googled earlier to see if they were sick.  Nope, they just looking to get they GROOVE on!

"I get a ton of letters from readers asking if it’s normal for a betta to blow bubbles in their tanks. These bubbles are called bubblenests, and a big nest means your fish is feeling all right with the world and is hoping for a date!   The male will collect gulps of air and blow them back out. The air, mixed with betta mucus, makes for tiny, sticky little bubbles that form a dome. These nests could eventually be home for fertilized betta eggs, which the male cares for after mating with a female. A little nest means your betta is happy and healthy, and a gigantic nest means he is feeling absolutely super and would like a girlfriend."

Happy "RAINY" Memorial Day

Man, what a way to wake up…  it’s storming like crap here!  How is it where you are?

Memorial Day to me has always been kind of a big family time.  My Gran’s birthday is right around now, my great aunt and uncle come in from FL to put flowers on my cousins grave in TN.  We usually have a big family reunion, etc…

Not this year.  This year everything seems to be crazy.  Since Pepaw just passed, everyone came in for the funeral etc…  No reunion this year.

We had a cookout planned for today, and its storming out.  So no cookout.  I think I’m kind of bummed out. LOL.

For my over seas friends, Memorial Day was started to honor fallen soldiers of the Union during the Civil War, and is observed the last Monday of May.  For our family, and for most I think, now it is the day you honor anyone who has passed, etc.  We usually head out to the cemetery for a day of reflection and have a big "grill out" for friends and family.

Have you met the team?

Better bookmark all these blogs ladies!  *Most of them have freebies!!!*  This is the current team at DSO…and dare I say it… we’re awesome!  lol.

Sunday Snuggle: 20th Century Ghosts p2

Welcome to the Sunday Snuggle.  Have you been reading?  This months book is 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill.  It is a book of short horror stories.

So I finally got a chance to sit down and give it a read.  If your reading it too, feel free to leave some comments about it.  That’s how this book club will work.

The first story in the book called “ButtonBoy” I thought was very good.  I need a story to suck me right in if there is going to be any hope of me finishing the book, and “ButtonBoy” did just that.  Without giving away too much of the story, I will say it did have a Texas Chainsaw Massacre/Hills Have Eyes kind of vibe.  I really like that.  The story within the story was actually really good too, and I could see it really being book of its own. LOL.   Though I saw the ending coming a mile a way, it still had me *fingers on – ready to turn the page before I got there*.

The next story, “20th Century Ghost“, wasn’t to me horror but more a suspense type story.  Had that been what I was in the mood for I would have really liked it.  But I was laying in the dark, snuggled up under my covers, itching to have the hair stand up on my neck and jump at every odd sound.  This story wasn’t that – for me.  I will say this one would be a fantastic read for anyone who likes ghost stories, but really isn’t into scary or gory stuff.  its actually quite beautiful, but definitely not horror.

The last story I’m going to talk about today is “Pop Art“.  This story is, different. lol.  Ok, I have to say it, for a story in what is supposed to be a horror story book – it sucked.  When I got what the title meant, I got excited and really expected some evil ending.  What I got was moosh.  The story is touching and actually, it made me tear up a little.  That made me mad.  I wasn’t looking for tears, I was looking for fears.  lol…  Nothing scary about it, at all.  Even the Cujo-esque escape to me, was lame.  But if you are looking to feel all warm and fuzzy, and want to get a story with a little “deep” in between the lines raw emotion brought on by the remembrances and cruelties and emotions of what childhood with a dysfunctional family is like, then… YOU will LOVE this one.   Damn you Joe Hill.  lol.

Now, given my scorecard, you may think I am not liking this book.  That is actually inaccurate.  So far, I am a Hill fan.  I think he has a great grasp of language, and his stories all have an excellent flow.  They all ebb, tide, and climax at the most proper points.  My disappointment is, however, that this book is listed as horror.  Over half of the stories inside are NOT horror.  When you are a horror fan, and you pick up a horror book, you do not want to feel all “warm and fuzzy”.  Instead, you are looking to be jaunted, the hairs tingling on your arms and neck, the shadows to sway on the walls causing you to sink deep into the safety of your covers.  You want it to grip you, rendering you unable to put it down because you HAVE to know what danger lies around the turn of the page.

Are you reading?  What are your thoughts?

NEXT MONTH

Want to get ready for next month?  The next one we will be reading is:
