All by myself, and a freebie too!

*sings the song…. "All by my—sayulf…" lol… nah Im just kidding.  LOL…

I did DO something all by myself the other day.  Yay, go me!

Why is this big news?  Its not really.  Well not for you.  But for me, woohoo!  See, I am not the buildy/fixy gal.  Im the pc/arty gal.  So anytime there is something to be fixed or made, my hubby makes little comments like "Just go work on something in the office, I’ll do it in a minute"   Ok, I am truly appreciative that he will do ANYTHING just about I ramble on about wanting done.  But here’s the thing, seriously, sometimes he talks to me like I’m two and it really hurts my feelers.  In his defense, it does seem like ANYTHING non-computer or non-creative I try to do, I do totally muck up and he has to go behind me and fix.  So I do understand.  Just, I wish he watched what he said sometimes, you know?

The other day started out like any other day, when I have bright ideas. LOL…

My hubby works full time, AND goes to college full time.  So he is VERY busy, and his "Gonna do"s seem to just build and build.  So the other day, I got the wild notion, that I would do some of the stuff I had been waiting on him to do.  Like put the finish on my table caddy.  If you dont know what a table caddy is, its just this round like Mini-table that sits in the middle of your dining room table, and spins.  You put like napkins, condiments, etc on it.  I read the can of finish, and it said to "Hold 8-10 inches away from object and spray on.  Wipe off after 10-15 minutes"  "Wow!" I thought.  No way could I muck THAT up right?  HAHAHA….  Apparently, there is a spray technique or something you need when applying varnish to wood.  Because SOMEHOW I did manage to muck it up!

table caddy

I sprayed it and let it set, and when I went back out about 10 minutes later to "wipe off"  the rag stuck to it because it was this sticky freakin mess.  It was already nearly dry, and now on TOP of the big disgusting blob of air bubbles, it had rag indents!

Well, I was totally bummed, so I took it to show hubby what happened, and explained I was trying to do some of the things he had said he would do when he could get to them.  He did the usual really loud over-exaggerated SIGH and said something along the lines of -go put it out in his shop, he would sand it off and ‘fix’ it later.  why don’t I go find something in the office to do-

I really wanted to scream "I am not two you f***head!"  But I didn’t.  Instead I came in here and got really depressed.  I hate not being able to fix stuff, and just build stuff like poof- there it is!  (mindi at dso is all the time building amazing things, like COFFEE TABLES and desks and… ughh..  just color me green, k?)

On a side, I do have to say, I take great comfort knowing that Sis has to turn on Daddys email for him. It makes me feel TOTALLY good…..hehehehe…

Oh back to what I was telling you…

That day, really blew for me.  It was the day the water heater blew up.  And we seemed to make 10 trips to Lowes.  Well, on one of those trips, he was getting pipes and fittings, and fitting goop, and all that technical stuff, so I went walking around Lowes.  And I had this amazing thought!  Yes, a LIGHTBULB went off above my head!

I had been looking in some craft magazines, admiring those craft room organizers thingys.  I remember thinking to myself.  "Damn $70 is high for a spice rack with a rod on it."

And there, in front of me, screaming "buy me, buy me!  Its me that you really want!"  Was a .44 dow rod.  I picked it up and I swear, clouds parted and angels sang!  THIS WAS GOING TO BE MY PROJECT!

I was smiling ear to ear when I got back over to the man thang.  He took one look at me with my little pole and made the "wtf" face.  "Whats that for"   "Im going to make something"  He rolled his eyes and giggled at my little pole.  *I seriously imagine him wondering what he was going to have to :fix: now. lol*

We got home, and I ran straight in here and shut the door behind me!

In here, my office, I have two huge walk in closets.  Neither are used for clothes.  One is full of books, and the other is, well HALF full of books. LOL….  But they both have those closet organizer things built into them.  So there are clothes rods like half way down.

Well, I took one clothes rod off, and slipped in my rod and…  whaaaaalahhhhh….  in less then two seconds I built MYSELF a ribbon organizer!

ribbonholder

LOL… I Know, you are totally NOT impressed.  But I AM!!!  I trimmed it to fit and EVERYTHING!  ALL BY MY SELF!  Take THAT manly man!  I don’t need you! *phbltttttttttt*

hahahah!  that feels good just saying it. *insert be sigh of relief*

She is still doing fine.  We are going to have her treated.  But it will have to wait until later in July.

And a few of you wanted to know how I fixed the knotting up on my sewing machine.

Apparently it is a setting called the tension setting.  If it is set to tight, your material will all bunch up.  Too loose and you get those knots!  Just play with your setting until you get it right.  Here’s my grans machine.  Its old, but it doesn’t look much different from the newer ones, so yours may be in nearly the same spot.  Good luck!!!

Man, I am glad yesterday is finally over!  What a crap day!

Sunday with Sandy

The day started off ordinary enough, my bff called and wanted to take me to breakfast.  So, of course I threw on some clothes and went.  While we were enjoying some coffee, the conversation turned to credit cards.  And I said I was glad we have ours.  We have one we use JUST for home stuff.  This renovating is expensive.  So we put absolutely everything on our card, and then pay it off at the end of the month.  That way we have a DETAILED log of what’s been bought and when.  I said, "the other we have for emergency, like if the water heater went out.  That’s a big purchase and I’m sure we couldn’t afford to just get a new water heater!"  She agreed and decided she was going to only keep one card.  For emergencies.

We finished our yummy breakfast, THANK YOU DENNYS!  And as we sat there sipping some more coffee and admiring the group of little old men that seem to go EVERYTIME we do, I happened to glance out the window.  The little stripper girl we passed on the way in (oh stop, Im not being mean.  She had a bunch of face jewelry and her ass+thong hanging out of her pants. Besides that I KNOW her and she was INDEED an "adult entertainer" I believe is what she calls it. LOL) Anyway….  She is now standing out there next to a suv with a sweet little poochy on a leash.  I thought to myself… oh thats a cute dog.  And as I took my next sip something dawned on me.   "Sandy, look" I said and pointed out the window.  "Oh he’s a cutey" she said.  "Yep, but where was he while she was in here eating?"  Now we had parked about 2 over from this suv, and there were no windows open when we got there.  And I started getting mad.  She had left the poochy in her suv, in 90 degree weather.  Yea, I was pissed.  My business?  NOPE, BUT… that doesnt mean I have to like it.

So we finish our coffee and head to KMart for some Sunday window shopping. LOL.  After being harassed by the clerk to at least APPLY for a kmart card, we decided to leave.  It had maybe been 30 minutes since Dennys.

Sandy’s cell phone rang.and the ring tone was the song "I’m a bitch"  You know the song.  Anyway, that’s the ring tone for ME.  That’s what it plays when I call her. LOL.. So I pick up the phone, giggle at the picture of me it shows when I call, and answer.  Fully prepared to tease my hubby about HIM calling MY friend!

And so it starts…

wondering why my hubby was calling my friend.  Oh dont go there, his ass KNOWS better then THAT!  He was calling HER because he couldn’t find my cell phone number. LOL..  Guess why he needed to call me.  Figured it out yet?  OUR WATER HEATER DIED!  You know.  The thing I had JUST SAID we had an emergency card for!  So I say to him, "Are you serious?  Are you kidding? Oh Im sorry honey! I must’ve jinxed us!"  Sandy hearing this says "What? Your water heater blow up?"  I looked at her and made the *can you believe that shit!* face and we both DIE laughing.  Ok, so Hubby, not really finding the situation funny at all tells me to get home NOW and help.  The water heater had leaked and ….  MY NEW CARPET WAS SOAKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I run in the house and he did exaggerate a little about the extent of the wetness.  But the heater had indeed DIED.

So we went to Lowes, bought a new one, and the day was spent cleaning a mess while he did the hole Out with the Old thing…

IMG_1687

Food heals all wounds…

LOL…

by the time everything got hooked back up, we were all starving.  We usually eat supper around 5ish, and it was nearly 8.  So hubby decided we EARNED a good meal, and the kids screamed El Bracero… YAY ME! lol…

The food was ok, not great.  And had I remembered the NO tomatos thing going on right now, we wouldn’t have went.  Pico De Gallo just isnt the SAME without ‘maters in it.

Another reason why I hate em…

We decided to take the kids to HellMart to let them spend their allowences.  I mean, they have been doing chores all week without being told, so the least we could do was let them spend the glories of their hard work.

While they were going up and down every SINGLE toy isle, inspecting EVERY SINGLE toy, I decided to go look at sewing patterns.  My gran just gave me her sewing machine, so I thought I could make sis a shirt or something.  I found the CUTEST pattern.

I went and got sis and told her to pick some material, and showed her were the $1 bin was.  To my shock she gets REALLY excited and starts squeeling.  She had found Hannah Montanna!

AWESOME!

After waiting about 10 mintues for the bitch clerk to stop talking to her friend I hand her Hannah and the pattern and she cuts me off some.  I say, you know what, you better give me enough to make two because Ive never sewn ANYTHING before and I know I’ll mess up the first one.

UMMM I got hosed!  The material she hands me is $33!

AMCAP 6 22 2008 10 20 12 PM

Now, Darrin about had a stroke.  And Sis was staring at me with those big eyes, I didnt have the heart to tell her to put it back, so I bought it.  Even though Darrins eyes were burning holed thru the back of my head as I paid.

As soon as we get home, I called granny and asked her if material is always that high!   Crap I could’ve got her two full OUTFITS for that!

Granny says OMG NO!  We came to the conclusion that since they were in middle of inventory, the girl didnt want to have to deal with recount her stuff, so she just sold me the ROLL.  And in looking at the sticker it wasnt a buck a yard. It was 4.  But since I am not a sewing kind of gal I had no idea about how much material it takes etc.

Lesson learned.  I will NOT be buying sewing stuff without my gran.  Them hags see me coming a mile away! LOL…

The experiment

Well, the more I talked to folks about my shopping boo-boo, the more it became clear I know absolutely NOTHING about sewing.  So I looked over at Grans machine, and decided I better at least open the case and be sure I can figure out how to turn it on. LOL.’

I did, and I found the power switch.  And I sewed a little, but it was totally messed up.  The thread was bunching up and piling up down in the bobber housing and it was breaking needles!  I broke 4 before I figured out what was going on!  So I looked on the net, and finally got out the BOOK and figured out the tension setting was off and causing the nasty knots.

AMCAP 6 22 2008 11 08 04 PM

I was very pleased with my self at this point.  It was after midnight and now I was wide awake with excitement at my ability to troubleshoot! ehehehehe..

the dress

So I got the wild idea to make a dress.  WHY or HOW I had no idea but I was going to do it!

I started it last night around 1am, and by noon today (YES, I have NOT gone to bed yet.  Thanks!)

thedress1

Now keep in mind, I have never sewn before.  Not really.  I mean I have played with Sis on her little toy machine. and we made a purse.  it didnt zip just hang open, and we used a ribbon for a strap. LOL…

Anyway, so this is a first time for me.  It looks a little off in the pics here, because she has her clothes on under it.

thedress2

the satin waist piece I hemmed in on the side of the dress, so it is attached.  And she can either tie it in the back or wrap it on around and tie it in the front.

Yay, go me!

The zipper needs to be re-sewn in.  Im assuming there is something special to do there, because the stitches are coming out already on it.  I did break two needles sewing it in *almost put my eye out!* maybe that had something to do with it, but its definitely un-attaching itself from the dress.

thedress3

I didnt have a pattern.  I laid her favorite dress on the material and cut around it to get the size, everything else I just kind of winged it as I went along.

thedress4

I know its not "sale worthy" work.  But I think it turned out FANTASTIC!

the freebie

phewwww…

are you STILL reading?  oh dont lie, you scrolled on down here to get the freebie didnt you?! lol…

its ok, I understand.  I probably wouldnt read my sleep deprived ramblings either. LOL…

Scrumptious Sunday!

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

How has the weekend been treating you?

Saturday started out fantastic for me!  We were planning to grill out, and it looked nice enough outside.  So bright and early we ran to hell-mart to buy the goods for the gathering.  I took a detour back to the crafting section to see what goodies had been clearanced while the hubby was looking for some new t’s for work.  When he welds, he burns holes thru them, so the cheaper the better I think!  They only last a few wears before they are ruined!

Anyway, LOOK what I found *yes, I am STILL smiling EAR TO EAR!*

goodbuys

Those are 12 x 12 LEATHER albums!!!  Normally 19.98 and they were only $2.50!  Needless to say, I filled the buggy. LOL…  Bought every last one of them!  Hello Kitty and Spongebob Ribbons for a quarter!  And some metal charmy embellishments!  The buggy was literally FULL.  Granted those albums filled it the most part but, ALL these goodies were less then $30!  The little cashier started to throw that clearance tag away, you should have seen her face when I said "Oh, can I have that?"  she was like.. "UHHHH ooooooookkkkkkkk"  hahahah!  I just knew the DSO GIRLS would NOT believe me about the price so I nabbed it for PROOF!  hahaha!!!  Every time I show them a good buy, they go look at there walmart and find NOTHING…  Sorry ladies! hehehehe…

So I came home TOTALLY chuffed about my crafty thrifty finds, set the bags down and peek at my email, only to find out that no sooner had I walked out the door, but DSO crashed!  WHAT!!!

SITE DOWN SITE DOWN, somebody hay-ulp!

I spent an hour or so on the phone with the web hosts, and "something" went wonky on their end.  They finally got it back up though.

What a joy it is to call technical support over your web site being down, and then have to listen to the guy on the other end yawn about a zillion times, and an hour later tell you that ‘Welp, SOMETHING is wrong on the server for sure but *insert BIIIGGGG YAWN HERE* I’ll have to get some more techs to look at it, I’m not sure what’s going on"

Now if you know me you know I am super friendly kind of gal.  Until I’m NOT.  lol…

So I said something along the lines of "look I’m sorry I interrupted your afternoon NAP.  But that site is a business site, and if you cant keep it online, I will find someone that can"  and hung up.  The site was back up within 10 minutes of that  ehehehe…

So crisis averted.

Dinner was on the grill, when my FIL showed up baring GIFTS!  Look what someone gave him {and he didn’t want so he gave us!}

A huge painting!

NEWPAINTING

It needs cleaned, really bad.  But its HUGE and I like it!  I googled for about an hour trying to find out something about it.  I know its not a one of a kind, it has a 167 stamped on the back. So Im guessing ours is 167 out of ____ a lot… lol.

Ever hear of this painter?

NEWPAINTING-plaque

Here’s a shot to show you how big it is…

NEWPAINTING-SIZE

Anyhoo, I thought it SUPER nice of him to show up with a gifty for us, even if he did get it free!  Shoot, FREE is the best KIND of gift. LOL

A few family friends showed up for the grilling, then they all (including my hubby and kids) took off for some evening fishing.  I stayed home to put up my new crafts and caught up on email.

I got my movies watched today too.  One Missed Call wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  Resurrecting the Champ, was good but kind of draggggged along.

Look a RECIPE!

The kids were REALLY bummed when they came in from fishing.  No one caught ANYTHING. Not even a nibble… so I decided to make them "mommas cheesecake".

cheesecakesupreme

I’m going to give you the recipe, but I wanted to give you a little story about this dessert first.  It is SOOOo delicious btw.  Don’t even LOOK at the recipe if you are on a diet. LOL…

Ok for the story…

we’ve been making it for years, since I was little *of course the recipe has changed over the years* but I can remember making it with my Grandma Nay, my moms mom.  She just called it Momma Cheesecake.  I always said, "why is it called cake?!"

well anyway..we’ve been eating it in our family for years. Not lately though, not for a while.

well, Sis LOVES to watch Paula Dean on the food network. You know that lady with the REAL southern drawl.  Now I have an accent, but LORDY….  that lady is "suth-rn ya’ll".  hehehe…

well, the other day Sis yells out, real southern drawl, "Momma Momma, Mrs Paula’s making Mommas Cheesecake come look!"

and sure nuff…

Paula was making her version or "Mommas Cheesecake"!  So now my daughter thinks I’m super famous because I obviously TAUGHT Mrs Paula how to make Mommas Cheesecake.

so of course they kids have been hounding me a few days to make it, and when they came home from fishing earlier they were totally bummed they didn’t catch anything…. so this Momma… made Mommas Cheesecake… and everyone went to bed full and happy.  Plus, now I’m kewl cuz I know Mrs Paula. (not really, but try explaining that to Sis. LOL)

anyway…

(the old fashioned way is by making the cheesecake from scratch.  THIS way is WAY easier!)

for the recipe

Mommas Cheesecake

2 boxes CHEESECAKE FLAVORED PUDDING
2 cups heavy cream*
2 cups milk
berries of your choice
baggy full of crushed Graham crackers
whipped topping

Prepare the pudding packages by adding the milk and heavy cream and mixing with a wire whisk until WELL blended.  Refrigerate until set. (about 5 minutes)

While the pudding is setting up, slice up your berries in a bowl, and crush some grahams in a baggy.

To serve (this is the part my kids LOVE…let kids do their own, they’ll love you for it!)

Using a parfait glass or serving dish, layer your ingredient.  Layer of graham crumbles (for the crust) layer of pudding, layer of berries, (repeat?) top with whipped topping (or how ever you like!)

*now if you are a cheesecake connoisseur then you may just want your a little "richer".  Yes, it CAN be richer. lol.. replace a cup of  that heavy cream with EAGLE BRAND SWEETENED MILK.  OMG yummmmmmmmmm…..

ok, back. talking about it made me have to have some more. LOL..  and NOW we know why I have put on so much weight this year! hahaha!  oh well.. mmmmmm… me likey!

hahhah!

The last thing I wanted to give you today was the scrapbooking sketch from yesterday, since I ran out of time and it wasn’t ready.

Here is my layout…

Took these funny photos at Holiday World last weekend.  I swear, out of 2 memory cards of photos I did not get ONE of them with a straight face. BRATS.  So my journaling says "All I wanted was one really good picture, All you two wanted was one more really good laugh.  Thanks for them All."  LOL…
