phewwww….

Man, I am glad yesterday is finally over!  What a crap day!

Sunday with Sandy

The day started off ordinary enough, my bff called and wanted to take me to breakfast.  So, of course I threw on some clothes and went.  While we were enjoying some coffee, the conversation turned to credit cards.  And I said I was glad we have ours.  We have one we use JUST for home stuff.  This renovating is expensive.  So we put absolutely everything on our card, and then pay it off at the end of the month.  That way we have a DETAILED log of what’s been bought and when.  I said, "the other we have for emergency, like if the water heater went out.  That’s a big purchase and I’m sure we couldn’t afford to just get a new water heater!"  She agreed and decided she was going to only keep one card.  For emergencies.

We finished our yummy breakfast, THANK YOU DENNYS!  And as we sat there sipping some more coffee and admiring the group of little old men that seem to go EVERYTIME we do, I happened to glance out the window.  The little stripper girl we passed on the way in (oh stop, Im not being mean.  She had a bunch of face jewelry and her ass+thong hanging out of her pants. Besides that I KNOW her and she was INDEED an "adult entertainer" I believe is what she calls it. LOL) Anyway….  She is now standing out there next to a suv with a sweet little poochy on a leash.  I thought to myself… oh thats a cute dog.  And as I took my next sip something dawned on me.   "Sandy, look" I said and pointed out the window.  "Oh he’s a cutey" she said.  "Yep, but where was he while she was in here eating?"  Now we had parked about 2 over from this suv, and there were no windows open when we got there.  And I started getting mad.  She had left the poochy in her suv, in 90 degree weather.  Yea, I was pissed.  My business?  NOPE, BUT… that doesnt mean I have to like it.

So we finish our coffee and head to KMart for some Sunday window shopping. LOL.  After being harassed by the clerk to at least APPLY for a kmart card, we decided to leave.  It had maybe been 30 minutes since Dennys.

Sandy’s cell phone rang.and the ring tone was the song "I’m a bitch"  You know the song.  Anyway, that’s the ring tone for ME.  That’s what it plays when I call her. LOL.. So I pick up the phone, giggle at the picture of me it shows when I call, and answer.  Fully prepared to tease my hubby about HIM calling MY friend!

And so it starts…

wondering why my hubby was calling my friend.  Oh dont go there, his ass KNOWS better then THAT!  He was calling HER because he couldn’t find my cell phone number. LOL..  Guess why he needed to call me.  Figured it out yet?  OUR WATER HEATER DIED!  You know.  The thing I had JUST SAID we had an emergency card for!  So I say to him, "Are you serious?  Are you kidding? Oh Im sorry honey! I must’ve jinxed us!"  Sandy hearing this says "What? Your water heater blow up?"  I looked at her and made the *can you believe that shit!* face and we both DIE laughing.  Ok, so Hubby, not really finding the situation funny at all tells me to get home NOW and help.  The water heater had leaked and ….  MY NEW CARPET WAS SOAKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I run in the house and he did exaggerate a little about the extent of the wetness.  But the heater had indeed DIED.

So we went to Lowes, bought a new one, and the day was spent cleaning a mess while he did the hole Out with the Old thing…

Food heals all wounds…

LOL…

by the time everything got hooked back up, we were all starving.  We usually eat supper around 5ish, and it was nearly 8.  So hubby decided we EARNED a good meal, and the kids screamed El Bracero… YAY ME! lol…

The food was ok, not great.  And had I remembered the NO tomatos thing going on right now, we wouldn’t have went.  Pico De Gallo just isnt the SAME without ‘maters in it.

Another reason why I hate em…

We decided to take the kids to HellMart to let them spend their allowences.  I mean, they have been doing chores all week without being told, so the least we could do was let them spend the glories of their hard work.

While they were going up and down every SINGLE toy isle, inspecting EVERY SINGLE toy, I decided to go look at sewing patterns.  My gran just gave me her sewing machine, so I thought I could make sis a shirt or something.  I found the CUTEST pattern.

I went and got sis and told her to pick some material, and showed her were the $1 bin was.  To my shock she gets REALLY excited and starts squeeling.  She had found Hannah Montanna!

AWESOME!

After waiting about 10 mintues for the bitch clerk to stop talking to her friend I hand her Hannah and the pattern and she cuts me off some.  I say, you know what, you better give me enough to make two because Ive never sewn ANYTHING before and I know I’ll mess up the first one.

UMMM I got hosed!  The material she hands me is $33!

Now, Darrin about had a stroke.  And Sis was staring at me with those big eyes, I didnt have the heart to tell her to put it back, so I bought it.  Even though Darrins eyes were burning holed thru the back of my head as I paid.

As soon as we get home, I called granny and asked her if material is always that high!   Crap I could’ve got her two full OUTFITS for that!

Granny says OMG NO!  We came to the conclusion that since they were in middle of inventory, the girl didnt want to have to deal with recount her stuff, so she just sold me the ROLL.  And in looking at the sticker it wasnt a buck a yard. It was 4.  But since I am not a sewing kind of gal I had no idea about how much material it takes etc.

Lesson learned.  I will NOT be buying sewing stuff without my gran.  Them hags see me coming a mile away! LOL…

The experiment

Well, the more I talked to folks about my shopping boo-boo, the more it became clear I know absolutely NOTHING about sewing.  So I looked over at Grans machine, and decided I better at least open the case and be sure I can figure out how to turn it on. LOL.’

I did, and I found the power switch.  And I sewed a little, but it was totally messed up.  The thread was bunching up and piling up down in the bobber housing and it was breaking needles!  I broke 4 before I figured out what was going on!  So I looked on the net, and finally got out the BOOK and figured out the tension setting was off and causing the nasty knots.

AMCAP 6 22 2008 11 08 04 PM

I was very pleased with my self at this point.  It was after midnight and now I was wide awake with excitement at my ability to troubleshoot! ehehehehe..

the dress

So I got the wild idea to make a dress.  WHY or HOW I had no idea but I was going to do it!

I started it last night around 1am, and by noon today (YES, I have NOT gone to bed yet.  Thanks!)

thedress1

Now keep in mind, I have never sewn before.  Not really.  I mean I have played with Sis on her little toy machine. and we made a purse.  it didnt zip just hang open, and we used a ribbon for a strap. LOL…

Anyway, so this is a first time for me.  It looks a little off in the pics here, because she has her clothes on under it.

thedress2

the satin waist piece I hemmed in on the side of the dress, so it is attached.  And she can either tie it in the back or wrap it on around and tie it in the front.

Yay, go me!

The zipper needs to be re-sewn in.  Im assuming there is something special to do there, because the stitches are coming out already on it.  I did break two needles sewing it in *almost put my eye out!* maybe that had something to do with it, but its definitely un-attaching itself from the dress.

thedress3

I didnt have a pattern.  I laid her favorite dress on the material and cut around it to get the size, everything else I just kind of winged it as I went along.

thedress4

I know its not "sale worthy" work.  But I think it turned out FANTASTIC!

Very cute! Love the color! Sewing can be more expensive at times than just
buying, but then you don’t get the creativity of making something all yourself
and all your own! I try to purchase on sales and with coupons. You can
check your local library for some books on sewing to help out too. I think
you have done a great job on your own! Thanks so much for the freebie. :)

I have some links for you. I hope they help, and one is a pdf to download to keep.

Thank you for the beautiful freeby!! Amazing job on the dress!!! I am amazed how you did it without a pattern!! Glad you didn’t poke your eye out!! LOL!!

  12. Laura Says:

You did a fantastic job on that dress. I would never guess it was your first time sewing something if you hadn’t said. GO YOU! I’ve been sewing for years and hesitate to do anything without a pattern so this is really impressive.
Thank you for the cute freebie. :)

BTW - I think it is anybody’s business if someone is leaving a critter in a hot car. I’ve been known to break someone’s window in such situations if I can’t find the owner. I have NO tolerance for cruelty.

  13. kimb Says:

Shee’s girl- Look at you go!- AWESOME job on the dress- man I have NO patience for the sewing machine at ALL!
As for putting in a zip- I have NO idea- LOL, i made sure the stuff I made didn’t have any in them- hahahahaha.

So you also had the busted water heater now- BWAHAHAHA, at least it didn’t shoot a hole through your roof like mine did- but man it’s a huge job cleaning it up!
Thanks for the mini- it’s SCRUMPTIOUS!

    now I need coffee- LOL

great story about the fabric! did you go back and get your money back? Thanks for sharing this freebie with us! Great sewing job!!!

  17. Carole N. Says:

Bunny, I am amazed that you made the dress without a pattern. That is much easier said then done. My mother made every piece of my clothing from the day I was born until I graduated high school including all my formals. She taught me to sew, but I haven’t sewn much for several years. It’s easier just to buy it ready made now and not anymore expensive.

Zippers are a real challenge and aren’t supposed to show once they are in the garment. I am sure you will figure it out or ask your grandma to help you.

The dress is adorable and I am sure your daughter was so proud of it because MOM made it with love.

I did read every word you wrote and enjoyed it all. Sorry you had such a bad day though.

Last week was my week from hell.

Father’s Day was the 5th anniversary of my mother’s death. I was born on Father’s Day (June 17th) so now it is bittersweet. I thought of Mom all day. That day one of my best friends that is quite a bit older then me (76) had a heart attach and had to be airlifted to a larger hospital. They did open heart surgery on her on my birthday. On Wed. we got a call that my husband’s last living aunt on his dad’s side had passed away. She was the last of 11 children. On Thur. my brother had extensive back surgery and has had a very rough time of it. Hopefully he may get to go home tomorrow. Our aunt’s funeral was Sat. I hope I do NOT have another week like this for a very long time. It sucked. LOL

Thanks for the beautiful freebie. I LOVE the color and good luck with your sewing projects. I think you are going to be a natural. LOL

    Hugs!

  18. Kimberkatt Says:

I couldn’t remember if I ever thanked you for them, so if I did, this is a double “Thank you Thank you!!” hehehe… Hope you have a great day today!
