AND YOU CAN TOO! lol..

I’m just tooting my morning away!  NO I didn’t eat a batch of burritos!  I mean TOOTING as in tooting my own horn! LOL…

I altered my first box today, and I’m totally proud of me.  I didn’t even make a mess!

The early BIRD *or Bunny in this case*

Got up early today for a "practice run" at getting up early again.  School starts tomorrow, AND its Bub’s birthday…  we got up around 5ish, ate a good breakfast, and finished going through the closets (need any girls size 7-10 or boys size 16-18 clothes?  GENTLY WORN.  ok some more gently then others but for hand me down what can you expect? LOL…)  Once the hubby came in from work it was off to Hell Mart for some yummy school clothes shopping.

We just got the basic stuff today, since last year they changed the dress code right AFTER school started and none of the clothes we had bought Bub were allowed!  We wasted about $200 on clothes!  Well, not wasted, he did still wear them.  Just not to school.  So in my eyes, they were bought for school and couldn’t be worn TO SCHOOL, thus wasted…

Anyhoo, socks, undies, new umbrellas, plain t’s… those kinds of things.

We got their school shoes this weekend in Evansville.  OMG, did I tell you already that I cried in the shoe store?  Not over the price but over the sizes!  My baby, my 7 year old BABY is officially out of the little girls department and had to have a size 6 in women’s!  SIZE SIX!!

She was picking out all these cute shoes in the girls department at Shoe Carnival, and the sizes stopped at 4.5  which we could BARELY fight on!  After her NOT being able to get about the fourth pair she picked out, I finally asked someone, if the next size up were in another isle.  You would have thought he jacked me straight in the face when he said "oh, the bigger sizes are in women’s isle 11G"

"WHAT!"  NO NO… she is only 7.  Not isle 11G.  Right here, Isle 4 come on PLEASE!

Somewhere between isle 4 and isle 11 I guess I teared up because the next little sales clerk we passed asked me if I were ok.  LOL

and poor Bubba.  His stinkers are now the same size as my hubby!  Double slap!  I turned the corner as they were high fiving each other and deciding which shoes THEY were going to get.  Yea, THEY.  They think its cool they can share…

NOT COOL!!!  NOT COOL!!!!   HE DOESNT NEED MAN SHOES!!!!

DH noticed my face, and thought I was upset about the price and said "OH hon, they’re on sale don’t worry."

I don’t care how MUCH they are, I care how BIG they are… my baby boy, in MAN SHOES!

*aghhhhhhh… sob sob….*

CRAFTYNESS

So, after telling Shannon and Kim for like 2 months I was going to go out and drag all my painting stuff out of storage I finally did it.  And not only did I discover that my custom hand made easel is busted.  Yea, that BUSTED not broken… *sob*  All of my brushes are frayed and/or dry rotted and all my paints are separated and congealed.  The only thing I found salvageable were my charcoals and a handful of watercolor sticks. My heart was broken.

Since we were in Evansville this weekend Darrin took me to Joanne’s, because I have never been.  And I was in hog heaven.  LOL..  ALL BEADING was on sale 40% off.  So I got me a few packs of beads.  Nothing else really struck my fancy.

I did buy an aqua pen at Hobby Lobby, and some blending sticks.  BTW, the blending sticks now a days *yep, showing my age with THAT statement. LOL*  these little things are junk.  The blending wands "sticks" that I used to charcoal with were way better then these wound paper wastes.  I’m thinking either quality on art supplies has gone to crap or Joanne’s isn’t a good place for supplies… They also had watercolor PENCILS, which I thought were cool!  Back in the day, they had watercolor sticks.  They were like a chalk shaped that was watercolor and you rubbed them on dampened paper.  These pencils you can work on wet OR dry… cooly!  I got them so I can play with stamping techniques for my cards…

I love the effects you can get with CONTROLLED watercolors…

the paper got a little jacked up, but thats tablet paper and not made for watercolors. LOL… you get the idea though, right?

I’ve been playing around with stamps and coloring them up.  I quite like it.  A little ghosting + glitter glaze…sometimes I dont think photos do the actual item justice..

ALTERING IT UP

As I said up top there, I did alter a tin today..

IMG_1838

It was really easy…

For my supplies:
1 12 x 12 scrapbook paper (mine is from ATD)
a tin (left over from some YUMS the DSO girls sent me)
glue
scissors
trimmer
ribbon (saved from the gift basket the DSO girls sent me)
mod podge
sponge applicator
emery board

I measured how tall the bowl part of my tin was and trimmed 2 strips to be 1/2 inch higher.  So I did 2 strips of 3 and 1/2 in wide and the left over piece was perfect for the lid!

I put some glue on the tin to hold my paper in place and wrapped the first piece.  I was extra careful it was aligning straight on the bottom, because my glue roller thing is permanent.  Once the paper hits it, its STUCK…

I then, slit the overlapping corner, so the excess would fold over and tuck nicely inside.

Repeating with the other side.

applied a little mod podge on the underside of the flaps and stuck them in.  Then I coated the entire thing in mod podge.

for the lid, I glued it into place, trimmed with my razor trimmer, and then emeryboarded up the edges.  Then slapped on a coat of mod podge.

ALMOST COPIC

you know…  I have drooled over these freaking Copic Markers for EVER.  I really wanted them back when I was in high school, first getting into drawing toons and of course couldn’t have them because they were so high.  Though, I swear back then they were called Copiic.  Imagine my surprise when I started seeing the name again, as a grown up.  Only now being mentioned on card making and stamping blogs.  Could it be?!  Sure enough…  and guess what else.. they are STILL too freakin high!

I did read on a couple of blogs about using cheaper brands and getting the same effect as the professional grade Copics.  So of course, I picked up some Sharpies and some Mark-its.  Im all for spending $20 instead of $300 if I can, kwim?

Hence why I altered the tin.  I wanted something pretty to put my new markers in.  hehehe..
