I got the answers… lol..

I just wanted to pop in today and kind of answer some of the questions I’ve gotten the last few days…  Kind of funny to see ME answering the questions, because I’m just learning this stuff as I go along.  Well, the crafting part, I’ve painted for years.  Its nice to be able to paint again!  anyway…ok here we go…

about the aquapen…

Niji

The brand I use is by Niji.  Now, I cant tell you if this is the best brand or not.  I just know, I bought it at Micheals and it was affordable (like $6). LOL.  I can tell you that if you are going to get one, get the FINE tip (9mm) because mine is the Med tip (12mm) and I like it, but I keep finding myself wishing I’d gotten the smaller one.

Using it:  I’ve gotten a couple of emails and comments asking how to change colors with the pen.  When your using it, what you do is fill it up with water.  And your going to watercolor paint just like it were a plain paint  brush.  The only difference is now the water is in your pen and not in a bowl.  Super easy to change colors, just squeeze it a little while wiping on a paper towel.

What is the RIGHT paper?

I got asked this a few times this week too.  If your going to water color on your cards or layouts, regular printer paper is no good.  You need a heavier grade paper, like 90lb or higher.  I use 120lb.  I like it, because its thick enough to let you watercolor without whelping up, and its thin enough you can still run it thru your printer without it almost jamming your printer.  The brand I have right now, I bought from DicBlick a while ago, called Art1st.  I buy the 9 x 12 sized.  For my HP Printer I have to trim about a 1/4 inch off the side to make it fit my paper tray, but for my DH All-In-One printer, I don’t have to trim it for it to fit.  So you will just have to check that after you get it home.

What about the Water Colors?

there are so many ways to get watercolors now.  You can get it in tubes like acrylics, in jars like jelly, in trays like when you were in school, in sticks like pastels, and in pencils which is what I like.  Mine are Derwent  I just bought the 12 pack to see if I liked them, and I do so I will probably end up with the 72. LOL…  Water color pencils are cool because there is several way to use em…

You can either color with the pencil on dry paper, then use your aqua pen to spread the paint.  You can use the pencil directly on wet paper.  Or you can do like I do, and rub the aqua pen on the pencil to pick up color and apply on the paper with the pen instead of the pencil.

From Doodle to Stamped Card

I got an interesting question yesterday.  Kylie wanted to know how I got my bug trail doodle to my card.  It was really simple actually!  I made a new canvas in psp 5 x 7.  Pasted my bug trail on the new canvas, so I could see what size I needed to print.  I sized them as needed, and printed.  Then I printed them, and cut them out, and stamped my words on.  I love mixing Doodles with traditional stamps!  Really there are so many doodles, fonts, and free clip art available on line, that you would never even have to buy stamps to still be able to have that stamped look!  And if you didn’t want to paint or color it by hand… you can do that on your computer too!  I’m finding I like doing the painting by hand, I like being able to "work" with my hands.

Will I…..

I got asked if I would make a set of my Butterfly Cards to sell in a set.  OMG, Do you know how flattering that is!  Of course I will!  I will make whatever you want!  Because of the cost of supplies and shipping I cant do it for free though.  If you would like any of the cards I’ve made email me for a price.

Will I make custom doodles?
oh shoot yea!  Just email me!  Please put DOODLE REQUEST in the subject so it gets my attention.  Please know that they will probably be posted as a freebie here on the blog and then put in the store for sale though.  No custom PRIVATE doodles for free.  Sorry, but I got to get something for my time.  If you want them exclusive to you, it will cost you for my time.

Whats in Kims Bag?

LOL.. I spit my coffee this morning when I got an email asking me that!  Is she gone out of town yet?  LOL…  hmmm.. to answer or not to answer… lol…

I will say that ONE thing in there, is the BEST I have seen on the market and I am not exaggerating.  You know I do quality control, not just for DSO but for my own clients as well, so I’ve seen a LOT of this type of product.  But none is as "clean".   Worth the price of the bag JUST for them.

A little pimping…
