scorpions…
as i lay in bed earlier trying to sleep, a story popped into my head I wanted to share with you all.
i’ve had so much on my mind the last few weeks, that my body is starting to show it. i cant sleep, and i’m so sleepy that i can barely keep my eyes open. its almost tragic. lol.
on top of all my personal goings on, i’m also having some health things going on, and its all stressful on its own. to add to that, someone i washed my hands of a very long time ago has reemerged and it is weighing on me quite heavily. and to add to that, one of my newest dear friends is facing a very difficult “business” type decision and as much as i want to scream at her which road to not follow {experience, ya know} i just dont feel i know her well enough to offer that much guidance without being asked for it. ugh. its all so cryptic, i know…
but both her upcoming choice, my wench {no not THAT wench, I *heart* you Kristine!} from the past, both can compare to a story i heard pastor olsteen tell. i know, you’re in shock. i have never really brought religion on to my blog before. but i love the olsteens. so, there ya go.
anyway, i looked and looked for a video clip but i couldnt find one. i did find it on several sites though so here is the story.
the scorpion and the toad
One day, a scorpion looked around at the mountain where he lived and decided that he wanted a change. So he set out on a journey through the forests and hills. He climbed over rocks and under vines and kept going until he reached a river.
The river was wide and swift, and the scorpion stopped to reconsider the situation. He couldn’t see any way across. So he ran upriver and then checked downriver, all the while thinking that he might have to turn back.
Suddenly, he saw a frog sitting in the rushes by the bank of the stream on the other side of the river. He decided to ask the frog for help getting across the stream.
“Hellooo Mr. Frog!” called the scorpion across the water, “Would you be so kind as to give me a ride on your back across the river?”
“Well now, Mr. Scorpion! How do I know that if I try to help you, you wont try to kill me?” asked the frog hesitantly.
“Because,” the scorpion replied, “If I try to kill you, then I would die too, for you see I cannot swim!”
Now this seemed to make sense to the frog. But he asked. “What about when I get close to the bank? You could still try to kill me and get back to the shore!”
“This is true,” agreed the scorpion, “But then I wouldn’t be able to get to the other side of the river!”
“Alright then…how do I know you wont just wait till we get to the other side and THEN kill me?” said the frog.
“Ahh…,” crooned the scorpion, “Because you see, once you’ve taken me to the other side of this river, I will be so grateful for your help, that it would hardly be fair to reward you with death, now would it?!”
So the frog agreed to take the scorpion across the river. He swam over to the bank and settled himself near the mud to pick up his passenger. The scorpion crawled onto the frog’s back, his sharp claws prickling into the frog’s soft hide, and the frog slid into the river. The muddy water swirled around them, but the frog stayed near the surface so the scorpion would not drown. He kicked strongly through the first half of the stream, his flippers paddling wildly against the current.
Halfway across the river, the frog suddenly felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his stinger from the frog’s back. A deadening numbness began to creep into his limbs.
“You fool!” croaked the frog, “Now we shall both die! Why on earth did you do that?”
The scorpion shrugged, and did a little jig on the drowning frog’s back.
“I could not help myself. It is my nature.”
Then they both sank into the muddy waters of the swiftly flowing river.
you see the point to this story, to me….
is that some people are just like that scorpion. toxic. they may not mean to be. they may not even realize they are, until they spew their venom onto you, and then it’s just too late. the real question is what do you do? do you trust that they wont sting you? not me. been there done that. kwim?
anyway, this is what’s on my mind this evening. as i lay, staring at my ceiling. to my new friend: i hope you read this post and realize my point. to my old ex-friend: i hope some day you realize that you are the scorpion and i am not nearly as naive as the toad.
good night my friends.

Wow…deep thoughts by Bunny today. lol
Hope the friend issues settles itself out for ya…
heart ya back gurl!!!
prayers and virtual hugs to you!
Not sure what’s going on, so I’ll just send blog-hugs (((Bunny))). Scorpions aren’t allowed to live here – so I totally get your point although I never really thought of people in that perspective – makes certain situations seem more clear and a bit more frightening. Bluh!
On a bright note, my ink replacement arrived yesterday! MWAH!
I *heart* you also.
