Thousand Word Thursday: Week 1
Welcome to the FIRST “1000 Word Thursday”. This is a new type of challenge for my site, open to you grown-ups and all you homeschooling mom’s too! The challenge is pretty simple. Each Thursday, I am going to post some random photograph, and you are to write a “story” about the picture. Let your pen go where ever the image inspires you to!
I have put together a little FAQ page here, that covers basically how this challenge will work and even why in the WORLD I’m trying to get writers visiting my blog! LOL
I already know a few of the questions popping like little exploding light bulbs above all my readers shiny foreheads, so let’s see if I can answer a few real quick.
Why am I doing this on a scrap booking blog?
Well, for one – I’m not ONLY a scrap booker. I enjoy reading and writing too!
Secondly, it seems like this year scrap booking, at least digital scrap booking, has turned more into an “art competition” rather then memory preservation. I hope to get back to seeing some journaling on those pages. The “art work” is beautiful, don’t get me wrong. But I like a little story with my pictures, don’t you?
Lastly, I feel like writing – I mean real writing, is a dying art. I know a lot of you guys home school, and I would like to open this up for kids too. So, to entice the younger crowd to play along, once a month a will pick a “Junior Submission” to win whatever that months posting prize is. Sorry grown-ups, the creative stimulus is for you, but the posting prize will be for someone 16 or younger.
What’s in it for you?
I hear all the time, “I wish I could journal better” or “I’m not a writer” and I beg to differ. I think EVERYONE can write. I’m hoping that doing these silly exercises with me will get you more comfortable with your own writing skills.
So, 1000 Word Thursdays…
I post a picture, you write up a ‘lil story with what YOU think my photo could represent. Post your story on your blog, and come right on back here and link us to it on the challenge post so we can all come and read. For our “Junior Submissions” – if you cant post online, feel free to write and either email your submission to me HERE. Or email and ask for my SNAIL MAIL address to send them too via the Post Office.
Now I know you are thinking 1000 words is really a lot, but it isn’t as much as you think. For instance right now, I am at 240+ words. Nearly ¼ of the way complete, and I haven’t even STARTED posting about today’s photo yet!
Now I will accept JUNIOR SUBMISSIONS up until DEC 25th, 2009 for ANY of the 1000 Word Thursdays posting during the month of December. One submission can be entered per each weekly challenge. {for a total for 4 entries} I will read them ALL and randomly choose ONE Junior Writer to win this small RAK PACK.
So, lets get started! Woohoo!
1000 Word Thursday – WEEK ONE:

You have until Dec 25th!

If you would like to read my submission…
Its right here, after the jump!
OOPS, don’t want to influence any stories.
I’ll come back and edit mine in later next week.
Good luck, now— GET TO WRITING!

Whoo HOO! Bunny this is a great idea! We are off to the grocery at the moment, but my homeschool boys and I will be knocking ideas around. We may very well do a joint submission since its looking to be a collaboration with the ideas flying. So no prizes for my boys, but that is fine and dandy, since they are over the age limit anyway.
I Really LOVE this idea! I will post about it to my homeschool groups and see who comes running!
Hugs Bunners!
