Mailbag Monday – HOW TO HYBRID
Hey guys! I thought I would start either doing some how to’s or answering some mailbag mail on Monday’s. So it seemed only fitting this weeks MAIL BAG just also happens to ask HOW TO MAKE IT…

Hey Bunny! I’ve been reading your blog forever it seems, and I love it when you show us the craftyness! I’m a all digital girl but really want to get into doing my own cards and stuff. Will you do a post on how exactly to do a “hybrid” kind of card? I’m really clueless as to how to get it from the screen to paper without it being flat. Luv You! – Kristy
Thanks for the mail Kristy! I would LOVE to show you how I do hybridy schtuffies!
First things first, you gotta know what program you’re going to use, and then decide on a digital product to use (or make your own!) For my card in this post I am using a kit by Loucee Creations called Amethyst Charm.
I always create everything digital FIRST, then print off the layers of the stuff I want to be dimensional (not flat)
So first I would MAKE THE CARD in Paint Shop Pro
Then, I would decide which bits did I want to have to GLUE ON… and I would pull them back off and make them their own images. Since we designed the card all digital, we can CUT off each layer we want and PASTE as a new image, and they will maintain size!
*If you happen to be a Photoshop user, I’m fairly certain there is a PRINT LAYERS function. Where you can have it print the layers. Don’t quote me on that though!
So after I have all my extra bits out, then I go to PRINT LAYOUT and on that screen you can drag and position all your bits on a sheet of paper.
Once printed out, it’s just a matter of assembling, embellishing, or doing whatever. Paper scrapbookers and crafters should be LOVING digital kits, because you buy it ONCE and can print the embellies over and over and over….
anyhoo…
so once printed you just cut out and assemble and embellish (if you’re gonna)
So for my supplies for this project I used:
- Amethyst Charm. by Loucee Creations
- Bone folder
- scissors
- Distress Ink
- Spicca Glitter Pen
- Aqua Glue
- Stickles Crystal
- Smooch
The recipe:
First I traced the sentiment with my Spicca Glitter Pen. You can’t tell in the photo, but it made the letters all blingy.

Then I stickled the lightest butterfly and set him off in the corner to dry…
For the other two, I distressed the edges with my ink pad, and on the polka dot one, I colored in the dots with SMOOCH.
Once everything was fairly dry, I assembled all the butterflies by gluing their BODIES (I left the wings loose) to the card, one on top of the other reducing size from largest to smallest.
Wow, that last pic is really blown out, don’t know what happened there!
Well, there you have it!
I hope this helped get ya going in the right direction!

Im so excited! I almost can’t believe it!
TODAY is product receiving day down in the Studio! Very soon, you will be able to purchase not only digi stuff in the store but tangible items too!
I’m so excited! I’ve wanted to do this for about 2 years now, if not longer. But you know that whole fear of “what if…” After talking to KimB and the hubs, and the hubs, and KimB and Shanna-banana, I finally swallowed my gut and stuck my toes in the water! {Nope, I didn’t jump in head first.. just sticking my TOES in for now! lol} YAY!
We won’t have a lot of products in the Studio at first. I really only intend to carry stuff I myself have used – and LIKE! So we might not have a LOT, but we’ll have what’s good.
So what’s in this first batch?
Well, I went with Tim Holtz yumminess and a few other things. As soon as I get it all inventoried and up in the shop I’ll post the link for you to CHECK it OUT… {ha! Check out, get it? haha!}
Anyway, just popping in to say HI! I know I haven’t posted a lot this week, but it’s kind of crazy around here.
HUGS to YOU!
><
oh shoot…
PS
If there are product you would like me to try to carry in the Studio, please let me know! If I can get it in for you, I sure will!
