a card, a recipe, and well…stuff
man I cant believe today is Friday. Where in the WORLD did this week go?! One more week of school *sigh*,
The last few days have been kind of crazy. Both kids are having tons of end of the year field trips. I seriously think I have sent over $50 for field trips this week. Parks, skating, movies, bowling… School sure has changed since I was a kid. Really I think instead of running around spending tons of my money the entire last week of school, why don’t they just call it today. KWIM? Save money for me, save money for the school, its a win win. And the crosswalk lady agrees with me.
Sis has been having a hard time getting everything TO school this week. So today was another day of running back up there to drop something off. On the way out I noticed the crosswalk lady. She used to be the CWL over at the kids’ old school! She was our CWL for 6 yrs? Long time. She recognized me too. WOW! Anyway, since it was the end of her shift we stood there and talked for a few minutes. She agrees with me, this last week of school this year is a waste of everyone’s money. Sure it’s fun for the kids but really? Come on. I mean if Im going to spend $50 in fun stuff it could be FAMILY fun stuff. kwim?

My friend, Jen Reed, is back to digi designing after about a 2 year hiatus from the digital world. She even returned to her old stomping ground - ScrapDish . This makes me happy.
When I saw her new kit in her newsletter, I kind of begged to play with it. The perks of friendship and all. hehehe…

It comes with:
13 papers, an alpha, and 35 coordinating elements
I had full intentions of playing with it this weekend, but since I couldn’t sleep last night I went ahead and whipped it out. LOL!
Here is what I got:
Didn’t it turn out cute? The 21 again tag is not attached to the card base, it comes off
and on the back I put the calendar chart thats in the kit…
I was thinking you could mark the date, and then put a sentiment, note, or write something funny.
Making this card was super easy since everything I needed was pretty much THERE, I just had to print and cut out.
I sized the background paper at 4.25 x 5.75, then popped on the alpha. Then printed that + one of the arrows, the calendar, and I used one of the tags from the alpha set and made it say 40 instead of 4.
Then I just stuck it all together.
The back of the background, I left solid white with just some of the Distressing ink showing on the edges, I thought I could stamp some lines and write a letter, or stick a photo or something.
Oh, I inked the edges of the card background with Distress Ink – Old Paper. And it was a perfect match. The tag I distressed the edges with my Paper Distressing Tool and then inked with Distress Vintage Photo. Added some real ribbon, and an eyelet from my Making Memories toolkit.
and the RECIPE
I was getting ready to toss out an empty bottle of A1 and noticed this recipe on there. A recipe, ON A BOTTLE! WHO KNEW?! Anyway, sounds yummo. Haven’t tried it yet but sharing anyways. Enjoy.

Pugging around and dinner
Today kind of stank.
That’s how you want a post to start out isn’t it? lol. Sorry, you know me. I just HAVE to be honest. It did.
My Grandmothers funeral was today. I was sad. So I slept. Almost all day. Literally. More on Grandma Nay another day. Not today.
I got up and got the kids off to school then, since my head hurt, I climbed back in bed for what I thought was going to be another hour or so of sleep. At noon, as if an alarm clock sounded, I woke up. Yes. NOON.
So there you have it. I slept until NOON. Twelve-o-OH!
It was so hot when I got up, my head was killing me, and I am still freaking sick. UGH. I just wish my voice was back and my throat didn’t hurt. Oh, and not gagging every time I cough – that would be a bonus! To top THAT off, now Sis is getting it. OY!
I ended up watching Neverending Story, and thinking about going to get my kids from school early. I really missed them today. Look, tears. Today sucked.
Good things did happen though.
I spent the day loving on these guys since they were available.
Sometimes all it takes is a nuzzle from her…
and some slobber luv from him…
and for that minute – everything is just FINE.
I sat out on the deck and watched a lot of this…
and it was HOT. I mean the kind of hot where there doesn’t seem to be any air. But he was too cute…
and I just couldn’t go in for a while… couldn’t risk missing this…
or laughing at her sprawled out like this…
sometimes I think they know when something is not right. Because he sure has been clingy today…
thats ok, I luv him. He “gets” me, and we get along just fine.
After I picked up SIs from Math Team I set out to cook supper. I like cooking, lately sometimes, it helps me take my mind off things. Its easy. Its rewarding, or I should say it CAN BE. lol..
Tonight I made these:
and you can find the recipe here:
http://www.bunnycates.com/recipes/2010/04/barbque-cheddar-balls/
but now its late…
So me, and my new glasses ( I’ll save that story for another day ) are going to lay down and read a book until we are fast asleep. It is after 1am here already, ya know….
Nighty Night
Thanksgiving Prep
Today is the day! Are you cooking? Aren’t you getting excited? My belly is waiting!
Not a big post today, there is much to do. I just wanted to pop in, say happy Tg and post some pics of what we have been doing in this house since 5 yesterday. COOKING! Do you know how hard it is to make cookies and pies with no hot water? I’m having to boil water just to have hot water to be able to wash the beaters and bowls so we can move on to the next thing! Its really blowing chunks!
On the TO DO for today:
Pecan Pie
Chocolate Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Deviled eggs
*sigh*
a mommy’s work is NEVER done!
Some Pecan Shortbread Sandies to get you in the mood….
I saw this recipe in a magazine and wanted to try it. Its different then my Pecan Sandie recipe. I think I like mine better but what the hay. These are pretty good. Just mine are a little sweeter.
Pecan Shortbread Sandies
Mix 2 cups butter with 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tsp vanilla
Sift together 3.5 cups flour and .5 cups cornstartch and a pinch of salt.
Mix it in slowly, adding a little – mix, add a little – mix.
It will get really thick. My 14 year old mixer can barely handle it…
SPOON in 1.5 cups of chopped pecans.
Make sure to get them really incorporated. Nothing blows harder then getting a cookie with only one nut in it and the next one having a quadmillion…
Roll into balls and place on cookie sheet.
{side note: I couldn’t find my GOOD cookie sheet, it was a HUGE “air bake” pan. Took up the whole shelf. Anyway, I ended up going and buying a new one. This one is by WILSON, and its AWESOME! The sides dip DOWN so the cookies literally just slide off!}
So you have all your balls, then you moosh them down. They wont deflate or settle ANY in the oven. So how they look at this stage is how they will come out. If you are a perfectionist and want perfect cookies, smoosh with the bottom of a glass or coffee mug. If you are like me, and don’t care how they look – then just moosh em down with your hands and move on.
I always cover the dough that has to wait its turn. I don’t know why. I guess I feel like since its not time to “take the stage” it should get to remain hidden until time for the show. hehehe…
*DO NOT REFRIDGERATE! It will make it too hard, and you will have to wait for it to get back to room temp to be able to ball it!
Bake in the over at 350 for 12-13 minutes. They should come out hard firm – and toothpick clean, but not crunchy. Crunchy means you cooked em too long!
While they are baking, get yourself out a big freezer bag and put in about 3/4 cups powdered sugar in there. (Recipe books will say put it in a bowl. Trust me, freezer bag is easier and way less MESS!)
See, I told ya they wouldn’t deflate any.
While the cookies are still pretty warm, dump them about 2 at a time in your freezer bag. Gently shake them around in there and then give them just a tiny squeeze. Not so much to crack the cookie, but enough to get some sugar to stick!
Then just set um on some wire racks to cool.
*Clean up tip – I always put a sheet of wax paper UNDER my cooling rack, right on the table. It will catch any droppings and when you are ready to clean up there is NO SCRUBBING! Just put your cookies in your cookie tin, pick up the wax paper and shake loose powder sugar in there too
and wah-lah!
Oh, just a warning. REALLY use BUTTER. Don’t use butter substitute, or butter flavor crisco. It wont work.
Ok, I’m out!
Have a happy ThanksGiving!
